Chapter 79: The Heathen Destroy Jerusalem
A Psalm of Asaph
The heathen have destroyed and
defiled not only Israel but its Holy Temples. Asaph asks the Lord to kindle His
anger no more, and to destroy the heathen. Asaph asks for the Lord to not
forget Israel and with His redeeming and, to deliver Israel from its enemies.
Chapter 80: The Shepherd of Israel
To the chief Musician upon
Shoshannim-Eduth, A Psalm of Asaph.
Asaph
again explains in this Psalm the situation of Israel and its need for Salvation.
Asaph asks the Shepherd of Israel to cause “…thy face to shine; and we shall be saved”
(Psalms 80:4). Asaph begs for the Lord to look down from heaven upon
their situation and remember them, as they will remember Him.
