Psalms 87-88

Psalms 87-88

Chapter 87: The Lord Loves the Gates of Zion

A Psalm or Song for the sons of Korah

                The Lord loves the gates of Zion, where the city of God dwells. The Lord will establish himself there.

                Although this Psalm does not say much some believe that it is talking about the Jerusalem here on earth and the Jerusalem in the heavens; Verses 1-3 are about Jerusalem on earth, the capital city of the Jews. Verses 4-6 are about another Jerusalem.

Chapter 88: Loving Kindness of the Lord

A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite

                This is a psalm is theorized to have been either written by Heman, someone who knew Heman or quite possibly it had been written by Job. No one is for sure. Whoever wrote this Psalm was by someone that was ill since they were a child. Either way it is a sad psalm. The author prays, but God does not seem to listen, making one feel like they are already in hell, or a dark place under the ground. The author writes;

“…I am a man that hath no strength… who thou [The Lord] rememberest no more… thou hast afflicted me...” (Psalms 88:4-7) Yet the author tells us that he calls upon God every morning. That is what the psalm teaches us. If things get bad … pray to God every morning!
