Scripture Thought (What I Learned):

Chapter 35: Alma's preaching in the land of the Zoramites causes them to destroy their craft. The people that join Alma are expel them from their church. Alma is saddened because of the wickedness of the people.

Chapter 36: Alma counsels his son Helaman, he tells Helaman of his conversion by an angel after he had persecuted the church. He counsels Helaman about trusting God through trials; "...O my son Helaman, behold, thou art in thy youth, and therefore, I beseech of thee that thou wilt hear my words and learn of me; for I do know what whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day."  (Alma 36:3)
If you put your trust in God, you will be supported in your trials and troubles when they arise.

Chapter 37: Alma talks to his son about how important the 24 Jaredite plates are in bringing souls unto salvation. Alma tells his son; "...by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise." (Alma 37:6) The Book of Mormon came to light after thousands of years to do just that... to bring to pass great things.
He also counsels his son to "...learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God." (Alma 37:35) Very good wisdom that we should learn as children and teach our children.
He tells us that we should "Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day." (Alma 37:37)

Chapter 38: Alma talks with his son Shiblon, about how through Christ you can obtain salvation. He warns him about boasting and tells him to "...bridle all your passions, that ye may be filled with love; see that ye refrain from idleness." (Alma 38:12)
We all have the natural man in us, we have desires and passions, that we must bridle or control that we might do as the Lord would want us to do.
