Scripture Thought (What I Learned):

Chapter 43: Alma and his sons continue to preach the word, the Zoramites and other Nephi dissenters join the Lamanites and come down upon the Nephites in war, Moroni helps defend by arming the Nephite soldiers with great armor and weapons... the Nephites defend their homes, liberties, families and religion.
Here we learn that it is perfectly ok to protect your family... "...ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies... ye shall defend your families even unto bloodshed..." (Alma 43:46-47) This means that if you are protecting your family, and you end up killing someone...  for example some guy breaks into your house and in order to protect yourself you kill the guy. In God's eyes you have not committed sin.

Chapter 44: Moroni commands the Lamanites to make a covenant of peace or be destroyed. Zerahemnah the leader of the Lamanites refuses... the battle continues and by the end of the battle (and having shed much lamanite blood) the lamanites put down their weapons and enter into a covenant of peace.

Chapter 45: Helaman (Alma the younger's son) believes his father's words and continues to preach in the land. Alma prophesies of the destruction of the Nephites 400 years after the time that Jesus Christ shall come. Alma blesses and curses the land as he leaves to head off into the wilderness, where he is never seen again... "...he was never heard of more; as to his death or burial we know not of...he (rumored by the church) was taken up by the Spirit, or buried by the hand of the Lord, even as Moses..." (Alma 45:18-19) See Deuteronomy 34:6 to see the reference about Moses.
Alma (the younger) was a righteous man.

Chapter 46: One of the people in the group of the Nephites, a man by the name of Amalickiah conspires to become king. Moroni raises the "Title of Liberty" to fight against those that wished to rise about the Nephites, calling themselves the Amalickiahites.
Moroni points out that after they had been delivered from death and destruction several times, there were still those who desired to do evil... "Thus we see how quick the children of men do forget the Lord their God, yea, how quick to do iniquity, and to be led away by the evil one." (Alma 46:8)
Moroni took his coat off and tore a piece off, and wrote on it; "...In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children..." (Alma 46:12)
Moroni raises his "Title of Liberty" upon a pole and prays with all his heart to God... those who are faithful to the church and believe in Christ are called Christians.  Moroni causes the Amalickiahites to flee to the land of Nephi. Those who will not support the cause of freedom will be put to death.
