Scripture Thought (What I Learned):

Chapter 47: Amalickiah uses his own people, treachery, and murder to become king of the lamanites. Those who fell away from the Nephites are even more vicious then the lamanites.

Chapter 48: Amalickiah, with his new powers as king starts to inspire the hearts of the Lamanites against the Nephites. Moroni prepares his people for battle, to defend the cause of Christianity.
                We learn a lot about the character of Moroni in this chapter;
                "...Moroni was a strong and a mighty man; he was a man of perfect understanding' yea, a man that did not delight in bloodshed; a man whose soul did joy in the liberty and the freedom of his country, and his brethren from bondage and slavery." (Alma 48:11)
                "Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men." (Alma 48:17)
                Moroni and his people were sorry for having to go to battle and send "...so many of their brothers out of this world into an eternal world, unprepared to meet their God." (Alma 48:23)

Chapter 49: Lamanites try to attack heavily fortified Nephite cities, thc city of Ammonihah and the city of Noah. After being defeated the Lamanites return to the king (king Amalickiah) and to bring him the news of the defeat. Amalickiah is angered and curses God and Moroni, making an oath that he would drink the blood of Moroni. Meanwhile... Helaman and his brethren continue to preach throughout the land, having much success.

Chapter 50: Moroni continues to fortify all of the cities in the land of the Nephites. They even build a new city and name it the city of Moroni. A group led by a man named Morianton and some of the dissenters of the Nephites plan to overtake the Nephites but are thwarted.
