Day 41; Helaman 5-8

I am tackling the Book of Mormon in 60 days. My plan is to have the Book of Mormon studied by the end of 2011. During my challenge, I will post a daily blog of my reading, in this blog I will share with you... my thoughts, feelings, opinions and knowledge about the Book of Mormon. Do you have questions? Comments? Please... lets start a discussion. I would be more than happy to answer your questions, comments or concerns!

Scripture Thought (What I Learned):

Chapter 5: Nephi and Lehi (the sons of Helaman) give up the judgment seat in order to preach. Because of their preaching they convert many people, but also anger others. Both of them are placed into prison, and a fire encircles them, but they are unharmed. A dark cloud overcomes the people nearby and the ground shakes violently. The people hear a voice that tells them to repent.
We learn that it is upon the "...rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds...it shall have no power over you..." (Helaman 5:12)

Chapter 6: The righteous Lamanites preach unto the wicked Nephites. The devil (Lucifer) guides the Gadianton Robbers in their murders and wickedness, they overtake the Nephite government.
Interesting thought: Helaman 6:10; talks about how Mulek and how the Lord had brought him to the land of the north and Lehi into the land of the south. So Mulek escaped Israel and was commanded to travel to the North America area. You can read about King Zedikiah (Mulek's father)and his escape in 2 Kings 26:4-7. Chapter 7: Nephi goes to preach in the North but it rejected. He returns to Zarahemla, he calls upon the people to repent or perish (Helaman 7:17-21)

Chapter 8: Corrupt judges seek to incite the people against Nephi. All prophets have testified of Christ. By inspiration Nephi announces the murder of the chief judge.
