Scripture Thought (What I Learned):

Chapter 9: During the darkness, the people hear the voice of Christ proclaim the destruction of many people and cities because of their wickedness. The Law of Moses is announced to be fulfilled and Christ invites all men to come unto him.
The new sacrifice that God asks of us is; a "...broken heart and a contrite spirit..." (Third Nephi 9:20)

Chapter 10: Silence remains in the land throughout the darkness for several hours. They hear the voice of Christ, promising that he will gather his people, as a hen gathers her chickens. We learn that the more righteous part of the people survive through the devastation..

Chapters 11-26; Jesus Christ visits the people of the Ancient Americas (the people of Nephi). They were gathered in the land of Bountiful. Jesus administers to them, and those who were wise did manifest themselves unto him. We learn a lot about the Gospel of Jesus Christ in these chapters. This happens roughly 34 years after Jesus Christ was born and very shortly after his death on the cross in Jerusalem.

Chapter 11: The people of Nephi were gathered together, conversing about what would happen next. They were talking about the signs given for the death of Christ. They hear a voice, but do not understand the voice until they hear it for the third time. They look towards heaven and see a Man descending out of heaven and he was clothed in a white robe.
He came down among the people and said; "Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and life of the world; and I have drunk of the bitter cup which the father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning." (Third Nephi 11:10-11)
When Jesus said these words, the people that were gathered there, fell to the earth and started to worship him. Jesus invites all the people there to come and feel his side and the prints on his hands, so that they know that He is indeed the Christ, that all the prophets had testified would come.
Jesus teaches the people the proper way to baptize, by immersion and using authority that he gave to Nephi and some others. (verses 24-25)
We also learn that contention is of the devil (verse 29)

Chapter 12: Jesus calls and commissions the quorum of the 12 Apostles. He delivers a discourse to the Nephites that can be easily compared to the discourse that he gave the "Sermon on the Mount) in Matthew 5 of the New Testament. His new teaches override and aspect of the old law of Moses. Men are commanded to be perfect like Jesus and his Father are.
                Be humble; 3 Nephi 12:3
Fornication and Adultery are sins; 3 Nephi 12:27-30
Love your enemy and bless those who curse you; 3 Nephi 12:43-45
